He is eternal, uncreated, and perfectly holy. He spoke, and our universe came into being. Time and history unfold according to His will.

“Dominion and awe belong to God; He establishes order in the heights of heaven." — Job 25:2

God's greatness is unmatched. He reigns with absolute authority, and nothing in heaven or on earth exists outside His care and rule.

Yet the wonder of God is not only found in His power, but in His heart. The God who rules over all things is also merciful, faithful, and steadfast in love. Scripture tells us that even the nations will stand in awe because of the goodness the Lord shows to His people (Jer. 33:9). His glory is not cold or overwhelming; it is beautiful, life-giving, and trustworthy.

When we begin by seeing God as He truly is—majestic, holy, and gracious—our hearts are naturally drawn into awe. Not fear that pushes us away, but reverent wonder that pulls us closer.

The Wonder of God’s Grace in Christ

The fullest display of God’s glory is found in Jesus Christ. In Him, we see the eternal Son clothed in humility, the Holy One drawing near to sinners, the Lord of glory laying down His life in love. At the cross, God’s justice and mercy meet. At the resurrection, His power and grace shine forth together.

It is breathtaking to consider that the God who holds the universe together has chosen to know us, redeem us, and walk with us. This is the wonder that softens the heart and deepens trust.

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God”— 1 John 3:1

Awe grows as we remember that our relationship with God is not based on our performance, but on His grace. We stand before Him forgiven, welcomed, and secure—not because He is less holy, but because Christ has made a way.

The Fear of the Lord and a Life of Wisdom

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom”— Prov. 9:10

This fear is not anxiety or dread; it is a reverent attentiveness to God—a deep respect shaped by love and trust. It is the recognition that God is God, and that life is best lived under His loving authority.

To fear the Lord is to take Him seriously—to listen when He speaks, to trust His ways, and to submit to His guidance. Wisdom begins here because when God is rightly honored, everything else begins to fall into place. Our decisions are shaped by truth rather than impulse. Our priorities are formed by eternity rather than urgency.

This reverence does not make life heavy; it makes it steady. It anchors the heart in the unchanging goodness of God.

Awe in the Daily Walk with God

When we live in awe of God, our daily walk with Him is transformed. Prayer becomes more than routine—it becomes communion. We approach God with confidence, yet with humility, knowing we are speaking to a holy God who delights to hear us.

Awe also shapes obedience. God’s commands are no longer experienced as restrictions, but as expressions of His love and wisdom. God's awesomeness should led us to reverence and loving devotion to Him.

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments”— John 14:15

Even in hardship, awe steadies us. Like Habakkuk, we may tremble at what we do not understand, yet still rest in God’s faithfulness (Hab. 3:2, 17–19). When God is great in our eyes, our circumstances no longer have the final word.

Walking with God in Reverent Wonder

Awe is not reserved for mountaintop moments; it is meant to shape our love and devotion to our glorious God in every moment of our lives. It grows as we read God’s Word, remember His faithfulness, and give thanks for His mercy. Over time, awe becomes a quiet strength—keeping our hearts tender, our worship sincere, and our trust secure.

To walk in awe of God is to live with open eyes and a softened heart. It is to marvel at who He is, rejoice in what He has done, and trust Him with where He is leading us.

May we walk each day with a deep and reverent wonder—loving, trusting, and following the glorious God who has drawn near to us in Jesus Christ.
